Cap'n Odie's Lounge had operated in Atlantic Beach for roughly forty years under one family before owner Kim Goings inherited it after her father's death. By the time Bar Rescue's "An Ode to the Cap'n" episode aired in April 2018, manager Liz had let standards slide, including staff drinking and smoking behind the bar, while Kim was rarely on-site and unpaid tabs were tracked loosely in a notebook rather than a proper system. A hurricane had also driven away business in the surrounding area. During a hidden-camera visit by two Navy officers, a whiskey sour arrived too sour and a replacement soda still carried black flecks traced to a moldy ice machine, prompting Jon Taffer to warn customers off the bar's drinks entirely.

Mixologist Phil Wills retrained the staff on cocktails built around Captain Morgan rum ahead of a stress test that exposed further gaps in service and a roughly $200 discrepancy in the tab book. As part of the renovation, the bar's name was shortened from Cap'n Odie's Lounge to Cap'n Odie's, and its colors were updated to reflect the nearby naval base that supplies much of its customer base, along with new point-of-sale equipment.

The rescue produced a strong initial result, with sales reported up more than 80 percent at the standard six-week follow-up.
