What happened after Kitchen Nightmares?

The Capri, an Italian restaurant and pizzeria on Eagle Rock Boulevard in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles, was featured in Kitchen Nightmares' twelfth episode of Season 4, filmed in January 2011 and aired May 6, 2011. Twin brothers Jim and Jeff Thiel had bought the restaurant, open since the early 1960s, from their parents about fourteen years before the episode; by their own account they had taken it over partly because they liked getting pizza for free. Ramsay found the restaurant open only five days a week with no clear explanation, a menu printed on flimsy, hard-to-read plastic, chewing gum stuck under the tables, and food including a meatball sandwich made from frozen meatballs and a chicken dish the twins could not confirm the age of. He also grew frustrated that neither twin could say when the restaurant had last been properly cleaned.

Ramsay's relaunch was one of the more extensive physical makeovers the show had done to that point, giving the dining room a full renovation, a new sign, and a trimmed-down menu, while pushing the twins to communicate more clearly with each other and with staff. The relaunch went well, and the twins kept most of the changes afterward, occasionally reviving a few legacy dishes as specials to win back longtime regulars.

Kitchen Nightmares revisited the Capri in a Season 5 special that aired in January 2012, with the twins telling Ramsay business was up and that they were still using his menu. The Daily Meal reported that the Capri closed on September 9, 2019, citing declining sales alongside the owners' health issues; Jim and Jeff posted a farewell message on the restaurant's Facebook page calling it "the end of an era." New owner Robert Fleming later renovated the same Eagle Rock Boulevard space into an aperitivo bar called Capri Club, deliberately referencing the original restaurant's 1960s roots, according to a June 2022 Los Angeles Times article; a Yelp listing for Capri Club was updated in August 2026 with over 150 reviews, though the current business is a distinct concept under different ownership.
