What happened after Bar Rescue?
Extremes was an Orange, California sports bar whose owner had let early success go to his head by the time it appeared on the September 30, 2012 episode "Bikini Bust" (Bar Rescue S2E10). Per Wikipedia's episode summary, the owner had grown drunk and disillusioned, the bartenders were required to work in bikinis that were not actually drawing in customers, and the staff was split between senior and newer bartenders fighting over tips, on top of significant hygiene problems in the bar itself. Jon Taffer's team addressed the staff's complaints about the owner's disengagement, replaced the bikini uniforms with baseball-themed outfits that played on the bar's sports-bar identity, and relaunched the business as Second Base, a name meant to nod toward its athletic branding without the previous uniform controversy.
Second Base did not stay fixed. Per Wikipedia's Bar Rescue season 3 entries, Extremes/Second Base was revisited years later for what became the first time the show ever attempted a re-rescue of a previously featured bar; that second visit ended in one of Taffer's rare on-camera walkouts after the owner refused to reinvest further money into the business. Tasting Table's June 9, 2026 feature on the bar's history describes a temporary recovery after the original 2012 rescue, followed by a slow decline as newer competing sports bars opened in the surrounding area, ultimately eroding whatever gains the relaunch had produced. The same Tasting Table report states that Second Base Bar & Grill's last day of operation fell in February 2025, and a Yelp listing for 1535 West Chapman Avenue is separately marked CLOSED as of a September 2026 update, confirming the location has not reopened under a new operator since. Wikipedia's season summary further notes that, for the recon segment of the original 2012 episode, Taffer brought in the owner and general manager of Angel's Sports Bar, a bar rebranded as Racks Billiards & Bourbon after appearing in the show's very first episode, underscoring how heavily the series leaned on its own past subjects even in its early seasons.
Second Base was an Orange, California sports bar owned by Terry, who first appeared on Bar Rescue years earlier when the space, then called Extreme Sports Bar & Grill, was rebranded as Second Base after Jon Taffer's 2012 visit. That first rescue was a success for a time: sales rose sharply after the makeover. But when several competing sports bars opened nearby, Second Base began losing about $4,000 a month, prompting a second visit from Taffer for "Second Base, Third Strike" (aired February 8, 2015). Recon found the bar's exterior sign no longer lit, the cocktail and food menus from the first rescue gone, and staff describing an owner who had grown disengaged, no longer knew his employees' names, and had let sanitation and equipment maintenance slide. Taffer offered to invest $100,000 in a second overhaul on the condition that Terry contribute a matching $30,000, but Terry told Taffer and his own staff he could not raise the money, a sticking point the show framed as evidence Terry was no longer willing to reinvest in the bar himself. Taffer declined to proceed with renovations and instead helped general manager Gary and other staff look for new jobs. Six weeks later, the show reported sales still declining, with Gary and the remaining staff actively searching for other work while Terry had still not invested in the business. According to Tasting Table, the bar continued operating under the Second Base name for another decade after that second, aborted rescue, but ongoing competition from newer sports bars in the area eventually caught up with it, and the business closed permanently in February 2025. A Yelp listing for the address showed the location as permanently closed as of a mid-2026 update, consistent with Tasting Table's reporting and suggesting the second Bar Rescue attempt ultimately did not change the bar's long-term trajectory.
