What happened after Kitchen Nightmares?

Mangia Mangia was an Italian restaurant with a drive-thru window in Woodland Park, Colorado, run by owner Julie Watson, a former realtor with no restaurant background, and her daughter Janelle. Filmed for a two-part episode, the visit found Ramsay unimpressed by all six dishes he sampled, including wild mushroom ravioli, chicken and wild rice soup, meat lasagna, veal piccata, and salmon, food that one server described to him as being made with stress and a microwave rather than care. Ramsay also found food served on unclean plates and clashed with Watson over what he described as a basic misunderstanding of how to run the business. The kitchen's head chef, Trevor Peterson, was dealing with a drug addiction during filming; after a one-on-one conversation with Ramsay, he was let go and replaced as part of the relaunch.

Ramsay rebuilt the menu around fresh ingredients rather than the frozen and microwaved food the kitchen had relied on, and the reopened restaurant drew mostly positive customer reviews in the months after filming, with diners praising the new decor and food quality. As with several other restaurants from the show, the improvement did not hold: according to The Takeout (2024-11-10) and other entertainment-press accounts, staff quietly returned to microwaving food after customers complained about how long freshly prepared dishes took, and the restaurant's closure came in November 2014, about seven months after the episode aired in April 2014.

The building has since become a Jimmy John's sandwich shop operating out of the same drive-thru window Ramsay had wanted closed during the episode, according to The Takeout's review of Google Earth imagery. Former head chef Trevor Peterson said in a 2019 online comment cited by entertainment outlets that he was in recovery and living in Colorado Springs. Former owner Julie Watson has since moved into real estate and is listed as an agent with a realty firm in Woodland Park. Kitchen Nightmares' original run ended later in 2014, and press coverage of the show's overall track record has noted that only a minority of the roughly 95 restaurants featured across its run, including Mangia Mangia, remained in business afterward.
