By 2010 the restaurant was owned by Nylah and her son Jeremy, neither of whom had prior restaurant experience; The Takeout reports the pair discovered after buying the business that its bar side generated most of the revenue while the dining room sat largely empty. Recap sources describe Gordon Ramsay waiting more than an hour for an appetizer on his visit, finding a walk-in refrigerator so unsanitary that he became ill, and using a blacklight to reveal bodily fluids throughout a bathroom; the restaurant's booths and carpeting were also in poor repair. After a confrontation with head chef Erick over food quality and pacing, Ramsay recommended promoting sous chef Drew to run the kitchen instead. For the relaunch, Ramsay's team converted Casa Roma into a pizzeria with a shorter, simplified menu, staged a pizza-eating contest tied to the restaurant's fiftieth anniversary, and the reopening was, per The Takeout, successfully carried off despite some early stumbles getting food out to tables.
