Charlie's Italian Bistro was an Italian restaurant in La Verne, California, taken over in 2010 by Tatiana, a former waitress there, using money her mother and sister raised by putting up their own homes as collateral. By the time Gordon Ramsay visited for the episode that aired February 17, 2012, the restaurant's food had drifted away from authentic Italian cooking, the staff was disjointed, and the family was at odds over how much debt the business had taken on to stay afloat.
