What happened after Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares?
D-Place was a restaurant in Chelmsford, Essex, and the second episode of the second series of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, which Channel 4 aired on 2005-05-31. A listing synopsis on Fubo describes a fusion restaurant where nothing was working and the owners were being driven into debt, and TheTVDB's listing asks whether Ramsay could turn around the restaurant's fortunes.
According to Wikipedia's article on the series, the restaurant was run by two first-time owners and sat inside the Saracen Hotel. Wikipedia describes an experienced head chef who resisted change, a general manager who struggled to take charge, and a restaurant name that Ramsay treated as the biggest single problem.
Ramsay's rescue, as Wikipedia summarizes it, renamed the restaurant Saracen's Cafe Bar after the hotel, introduced a new menu built around a club sandwich, and kept the head chef on. The page does not mention decor changes. The relaunch, a reopening lunch, descended into chaos with many guests left without food, and the owners dismissed the general manager afterward. The episode ended with the owners toughening up and the chef's attitude improving, though it was unclear whether the changes would last.
The Observer's Atticus column of 2005-05-29, as relayed by MCA Insight, reported that the Saracens Head in Chelmsford had dropped a menu designed by Ramsay and that its head chef, Philippe Blaise, said sales had fallen by half after the menu began; the MCA Insight copy does not mention D-Place by name. According to Wikipedia's article on the series, the episode's closing segment reported that the restaurant was closed and its lease was up for sale, and that the head chef was hired by the Saracen Hotel, where the club sandwich became the signature dish.
