Kerry's Sports Pub operated in Las Vegas under owner Bill Davis, who according to the episode had invested his life savings into the bar to secure his children's and grandchildren's futures and staffed it largely with family. According to Reality TV Updates, after Davis suffered a stroke in 2011, family members took advantage of his reduced oversight: his grandson Justin was characterized as unreliable and prone to workplace flirtation, and his daughter Kim was seen as too lenient with staff. Jon Taffer's team found simple drinks like a margarita and a Bloody Mary taking too long to prepare, and surveillance footage showed two bartenders pocketing cash from the till and giving away drinks, cutting the bar's sales roughly in half; both employees were fired as a result.

As part of the rescue, chef Brendan Collins trained the kitchen on a proper BLT sandwich and general presentation standards, and mixologist Phil Wills worked with the remaining bartenders on speed and consistency. Taffer put Kim in a formal manager role for the first time. The renovation introduced a bacon-forward menu concept meant to differentiate the bar from other sports bars nearby, including bacon-infused Bloody Marys, and the business was renamed from Kerry's Sports Pub to Bacon Bar.
