Marley's on the Beach operated on Oakland Beach in Warwick, Rhode Island, next door to the restaurant Iggy's, under husband-and-wife owners Kevin and Michelle, who had opened the bar in 2010 after Michelle withdrew roughly $170,000 from her retirement savings to fund it, according to Reality TV Updates. By the time of the Bar Rescue visit, the bar was losing more than $4,000 a month and the couple was carrying over a quarter million dollars in debt; the show also depicted the financial stress as straining the couple's marriage. Jon Taffer's team found slow, understaffed service, food held at unsafe temperatures, and friction between kitchen staff that led one cook to briefly walk off the job.

As part of the rescue, chef Brendan Collins retrained the kitchen on Caribbean-influenced dishes and food-safety basics, while mixologist Russell Davis worked with bartenders on a new drink program built around spiced rum. Dave, the owner of neighboring Iggy's and the building's landlord, helped install a new on-site manager.
