What happened after Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares?

Ruby Tates was an oyster bar and seafood restaurant in Brighton, run by Allan Love, a former actor, when Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares (Channel 4) aired its episode on 2007-10-30. TheTVDB's listing for the episode notes that Love had never tasted the food he served because he dislikes fish, and it asks whether Ramsay can help the restaurant.

The problems: According to Wikipedia's episode list, Love's dislike of fish sat awkwardly with a menu built around it, and the fish on offer was overpriced and of poor quality. Two chefs, Jamie and Alex, were shown putting little effort into the kitchen, and Love was proud of the restaurant's bright, ornate decor. The episode also showed Love under financial strain, which the list compresses to a worry about the money tied up in the business.

What the rescue changed: Ramsay found plentiful local pollock, added a pollock fish and chips dish and oversaw a redesign of the dining room. The restaurant was renamed Love's Fish Restaurant, and Jamie became head chef, per Wikipedia's episode list.

The relaunch and revisit: The list says the restaurant was still doing well about two months after Ramsay's visit, and that Alex had left the team shortly after Ramsay departed, following lateness and a lack of respect toward Love.

Restaurant Online reported on 2009-01-02 that Love's Fish had closed permanently, with a note on the door blaming the credit crunch and a lack of bookings; the article said Allan Love had warned in a November 2008 podcast that business had fallen sharply. Love wrote on the restaurant's website that it was a very sad time but that the family would try to be positive about the future. Reality TV Updates, a show-tracking site, gave the address in a 2023-08-05 update as 40 St James's Street, Brighton, and Google's listing showed Pavel Indian Restaurant trading there in October 2026.
