What happened after Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares?

Curry Lounge was an Indian restaurant in Nottingham, owned by Arfan Razak, known as Raz, when Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares (Channel 4) aired its episode on 2007-12-11. TheTVDB's listing for the episode calls Nottingham the city with more restaurants per square mile than any other in Britain and says it was the first time Ramsay took on an Indian restaurant.

The problems: According to Wikipedia's episode list, the restaurant's advertising claimed it was Nottingham's best while small print showed it had only placed as a runner-up. Its make-your-own-curry concept required huge stocks of ingredients, and Ramsay was unimpressed by the curries. The head chef was Khan.

What the rescue changed: Khan's family recipe for lamb korma was added to the menu and impressed Raz. Ramsay launched curry deliveries to offices in the city center and introduced a menu based on regional flavors. The list describes the reopening as a success.

The revisit: The restaurant was so busy that Ramsay could not find a seat. He also had the restaurant's naan bread stands taken to a scrap dealer.

A press release dated 2008-11-14 on the food4media site said Raz credited Ramsay's advice with turning the business around and announced franchise plans, including a first franchise site at 22a Station Parade in Willesden Green, London, due to open before Christmas, with Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham under consideration for early the next year and sites in Los Angeles and Dubai also mentioned. The Craft Guild of Chefs reported on 2011-08-04 that Curry Lounge was catering for the cast and crew of the Bollywood film Teri Meri Kahani during about three weeks of filming in Nottingham and Stratford-upon-Avon, and that it had recently been named best Indian venue in the East Midlands at the English Curry Awards. Companies House lists Curry Lounge (Nottingham) Limited, incorporated on 2006-04-11, as dissolved on 2017-08-24, with its last accounts made up to 2013-04-30. An undated listing on the Zabihah directory gives the address of a Curry Lounge as 110 Lower Parliament Street, Nottingham.

Companies House records show that Curry Lounge (Nottingham) Limited, with Arfan Razak as director, entered creditors' voluntary liquidation on 2015-10-01 before its dissolution in 2017. Reality TV Revisited, a show-tracking site, reported that Razak sold the restaurant in 2015 and that it reopened under a new owner as Tandoor Restaurant and Bar, closing in 2018. Reality TV Updates gives the restaurant's address as 110 Upper Parliament Street, not Lower Parliament Street, and an Italian restaurant, CASA Italian, lists that address on its website, last modified 2026-07-29.
