What happened after Bar Rescue?

Tonic Lounge was a bar and live-music venue at 3100 Northeast Sandy Boulevard in Portland's Kerns neighborhood, known before its Bar Rescue appearance as a fixture of the city's local live-music scene, hosting touring and local bands on a regular booking calendar. On the episode "Ants with Wings, Bro!" (aired 2015-07-26), the bar was shown with cleanliness and operational problems typical of the show's format, and as part of the rescue host Jon Taffer redesigned the space and renamed it Panic Room Caution: High Volume Bar, with updated signage, a refreshed interior and revised drink and service standards intended to professionalize what had been an informal, band-friendly dive bar.

The new name did not hold for long. According to Wikipedia's sourced account of the venue's history, the bar operated under the Panic Room name before being renamed again to The Raven in August 2016, then reported as closed under that name in January 2017. The space reopened under the original Tonic Lounge name in March 2017, restoring its identity as a music venue. In May 2017, under the restored name, Tonic Lounge canceled a scheduled performance by a Swedish metal band following public reports about the conduct of the band's frontman.

Tonic Lounge continued operating as a music venue for roughly two more years, maintaining a regular schedule of live shows alongside its bar service. According to reporting cited by Wikipedia from the Portland Mercury, the venue's operators announced in April 2019 that Tonic Lounge would close by the end of that summer, and the bar closed permanently on August 31, 2019.

The Sandy Boulevard address has remained closed in the years since. A Yelp listing for Tonic Lounge shows the location marked as permanently closed, with an update to that listing dated September 2026, consistent with no subsequent reopening at 3100 Northeast Sandy Boulevard.
