What happened after The Hotel Inspector?

Caer Beris Manor is a country house hotel and restaurant on the edge of Builth Wells, Powys, which the Channel 5 episode (series 17, episode 3, aired 2022-06-30) titled “Caer Beris Manor, Brecon Beacons”. TVmaze's listing describes a family of first-time hoteliers running a 22-bedroom manor with fine-dining ambitions but only a skeleton crew, and says Alex Polizzi advised them to pause their Michelin-star plans. The Wikipedia list of Hotel Inspector episodes names the owners as Omar, a former real estate agent, and his wife.

Earlier history appears in sale material for the same property. The Brecon & Radnor Express reported on 2016-05-19 that the AA three-star Caer Beris Hotel, a Grade II listed 19th-century building on the edge of Builth Wells, was for sale through Christie & Co at an asking price of £1 million after almost 30 years under one owner. The paper said it had 23 bedrooms, 25 acres of grounds with river fishing rights, and a restaurant with an AA Rosette. Christie & Co's own sales page, which carries no date, gives the same ownership period and bedroom count. A Google Maps listing gives the address as Caer Beris Manor Hotel & Restaurant, Builth Wells LD2 3NP.

The Shropshire Star reported on 12 January 2023 that the owning family of the Caer Beris Hotel at Builth Wells, which the paper said was marketed through Christie & Co at an asking price of 1.75 million pounds, had said the hotel closed indefinitely from 31 December 2022 because costs had almost tripled. Hotels.com's listing for Caer Beris Manor carries a notice that the property is closed from 28 December 2022 to 31 December 2023, and its newest guest reviews are dated November and December 2022. A separate Expedia listing named Caer Beris Hotel, with a Golf Links Road address, shows guest reviews dated September 2025 to May 2026; it does not say whether it is the same operation.

Title: Caer Beris Manor, Brecon Beacons · What was featured: Family-run 22-bedroom manor with fine-dining ambitions and a skeleton staff

Synopsis (tvmaze.com) : This time, the Hotel Inspector visits Caer Beris Manor, run by former Dubai real estate agent Omar and his wife, Kim, along with Kim's publican parents, Pete and Angie. In 2019, this family of first-time hoteliers took on the 22-bedroom manor near the Brecon Beacons, complete with 30-seat restaurant and function room. Despite their inexperience in the hotel industry, the family have high-minded ambitions for their business, dreaming of offering fine dining and a five-star experience at a three-star price. But having barely survived their first full season, the reality is that the family have bitten off more than they can chew. As well as dodgy decor at odds with the historic building, the hotel is run by a skeleton crew, piling more pressure on the family. The family has big ambitions for the restaurant, but with no chefs in the kitchen, it's an area that's fallen to self-taught cook Omar to oversee alone. Alex advises that the family put on hold their dream of a Michelin-starred establishment, and bring in experienced business owner, Barney Cunliffe, to help them think carefully about their dramatic change of direction, and tell them what it really takes to achieve a Michelin star. Can Alex convince the family to go back to basics — or will she leave them determined to reach for the stars?
