What happened after Restaurant Takeover?

Curry & Roti was the second restaurant featured on Restaurant Takeover (Food Network Canada), in an episode that aired on 2012-09-06. TVmaze's synopsis describes a second-generation Caribbean family restaurant, about forty years old, that was unsure of its own identity: was it a take-out counter or a fine-dining room? Profits had dropped, and owners Rozanne and Mac wanted the business to survive so that a third generation could run it. According to TVmaze, the show assigned chef Corbin Tomaszeski and designer Paula Velez to the job. TV Guide's season listing describes the restaurant as a 40-year-old Caribbean spot in Toronto that gets an update.

blogTO ran a piece in September 2012, dated by its web address, in which owner Rozanne Persad discussed the makeover. According to blogTO, Persad wanted a younger, more contemporary look to appeal to the next generation of diners, including her daughter's age group, who she said eat out daily and prefer updated spaces. She told the writer she was thrilled with the result and that business had gone up since the promotional spots for the episode began airing. The piece does not itemize any menu, name or staff changes, and none of the other pages I read does either, so this entry does not describe them.

blogTO's separate listing for the restaurant, which carries no date, says it has operated since 1973. It lists roti made in organic, whole wheat and spelt versions, paired with meat and vegetables and seasoned from recipes of Trinidad and Tobago and of Guyana.

The street address used here, 1732 Lawrence Avenue East, comes from the research for this entry, which draws on blogTO's listing, rather than from a page I could read directly.

blogTO's listing for Curry & Roti, read at blogto.com/restaurants/curryroti on 2026-10-19, carries a "NOW CLOSED" label beneath the restaurant's name and gives no closing date. The same listing opens by saying the restaurant has been in business since 1973. blogTO's September 2012 article about the makeover likewise said the restaurant had been open since 1973 and quoted owner Rozanne Persad, and TVmaze described the restaurant as about forty years old, so the listing matches the restaurant on the show.
