What happened after Restaurant Takeover?
Vindaloo, a family-run Indian restaurant, was the seventh restaurant on Restaurant Takeover (Food Network Canada), in an episode that aired on 2012-10-11. TVmaze's synopsis says the restaurant was close to closing after a year of poor decisions, difficulties with municipal red tape and trouble with contractors. The show sent chef Richard Andino and designer Montana Burnett to help the family. TV Guide's season listing and TheTVDB's episode entry give the same outline, with TV Guide describing a family-run restaurant facing closure because of bureaucratic hurdles and poor work by contractors.
None of the listings I read names a city, a street or the owners, and none itemizes the menu, decor or name changes or describes how the relaunch went, so this entry does not describe them.
One candidate turned up but could not be linked to the show. Stephanie Dickison's article of 2016-04-22 profiles Vindaloo on Kingston Road in Scarborough, where Raj Khatri became chef in 2011 and later bought the restaurant from the previous owner. According to that article, he kept the familiar dining room and menu while emphasizing fresh ingredients and a clean kitchen, and it describes a 32-seat, family-run restaurant offering takeout, delivery and catering. It does not mention Restaurant Takeover, a makeover, or any renovation or permit problems.
The website of Vindaloo Indian Cuisine, read on 2026-10-19, carried a 2026 copyright notice and listed hours of 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day for its Kingston Scarborough location, and it also lists an Ellesmere location. blogTO has a separate undated listing for a Vindaloo that describes a modern Indian restaurant with cozy booths and free parking. Because no source connects any of these to the 2012 episode, this entry does not treat that restaurant as the one on the show, and it records no address for the episode's restaurant. The only dated information about the program itself is the 2012-10-11 air date in TVmaze's episode guide.
City of Toronto business licence records list Vindallo Fine Indian Cuisine at 2891 Kingston Road in Scarborough, licensed from 2012-03-21, a few months before the episode aired, until the licence was cancelled on 2014-12-08. According to the same records, different companies have since run Vindaloo Express Indian Cuisine and, from 2019, Vindaloo Indian Cuisine at that address. It is the only Vindaloo-named restaurant licensed in the city in 2012, though no source read names the show.
