What happened after Restaurant Makeover?
The Town Grill was a restaurant on Carlton Street in Toronto's Cabbagetown neighborhood, according to a BlogTO post dated by its web address to August 2008. Its episode of Restaurant Makeover, a series on Food Network Canada and HGTV Canada, aired on November 7, 2005, as the sixth episode of the second season. Rotten Tomatoes' season listing gives only a one-line description saying the restaurant received a makeover. No page read describes the problems shown in the episode, the changes to its menu, decor, staffing or name, or the relaunch.
The series paired a chef with a designer to rebuild a restaurant on a small budget and a tight schedule, and TVmaze's listing for the show says the owners put up half of the funding. Rotten Tomatoes names six chefs among the season's hosts, Brad Long, Rene Chauvin, Lynn Crawford, Massimo Capra, Corbin Tomaszeski and David Adjey, but nothing read says which of them or which designer worked on the Town Grill episode.
What happened afterward comes from BlogTO's Deadpool column of August 2008. The post said the Town Grill had a revival in 2007 when chef Colin Gallacher took over, with a menu that included steak frites, black cod and potato rosti, and that the restaurant had since closed its doors. It added that John Lee, a well-known sushi figure in the city, would bring Omi Sushi to the neighborhood and that renovation work for Omi was running behind. The post did not say whether Omi would occupy the Town Grill's former space and gave no street number.
Wikipedia's list of renovated restaurants says the site is now Omi Sushi. An undated eGullet thread places a restaurant called Omi at the corner of Carlton and Parliament streets but does not mention the Town Grill, and an undated BlogTO page for Omi Restaurant describes a Japanese restaurant in Cabbagetown and is marked now closed.
