What happened after Restaurant Makeover?
Aftermath Cafe was the subject of the ninth episode of the second season of Restaurant Makeover, a series on Food Network Canada and HGTV Canada. Rotten Tomatoes' season listing gives the episode title as Aftermath Café and an air date of January 1, 2006, the same date it gives for the Old York Bar and Grill episode. The listing describes the project as creating a more grown-up space and menu while still appealing to the cafe's teen customers, so a young clientele and a need for a more mature room and menu are the brief it records.
Beyond that line, nothing read describes the cafe's problems, its owners, its location, the changes made to the menu, decor, staffing or name, or the relaunch. Rotten Tomatoes lists the second season as thirteen episodes, running from September 18, 2005 to July 31, 2006, with the Aftermath Café episode directly after the Old York Bar and Grill episode and directly before the High Point Restaurant episode of January 23, 2006.
The series paired a chef with a designer to rebuild a restaurant on a small budget and a tight schedule, and TVmaze's listing for the show says the owners put up half of the funding, watched the demolition and returned to see the finished room. Rotten Tomatoes names six chefs among the season's hosts, Brad Long, Rene Chauvin, Lynn Crawford, Massimo Capra, Corbin Tomaszeski and David Adjey, but nothing read says which of them or which designer worked on this episode.
Wikipedia's list of renovated restaurants carries a note saying the cafe was renamed Events Cafe and then closed. No page read corroborates the new name, a date for the change, or any closure, and no page read gives the cafe's street address or even confirms the neighborhood in Toronto where it stood.
City of Toronto business licence records list Aftermath Cafe, operated by Aftermath Inc at 536 Manning Avenue, licensed from 2005-01-17 until the licence was cancelled on 2008-03-14. According to the same records, the address was then licensed to Events Cafe, Smoke Bourbon Bar B.Q. House, That Freakin Greek and Le Petit Chef, which has held an active licence there since 2025.
