Is Human Bean Still Open? Restaurant Makeover Update (Cobourg, ON)

Human Bean was the thirteenth and last episode of Restaurant Makeover's first season in the listings we read, aired 2005-06-28 according to the Google Play, Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb listings. Google Play's description says a vegetarian cafe that served as a cultural hub in a fast-growing town had to compete with big chains that had far larger budgets. Rotten Tomatoes says the cafe needed a makeover. RealityTVWorld's show page credits chef Lynn Crawford and designer Robin De Groot.

The show's format, as RealityTVWorld and Wikipedia's article on the series describe it, gave each team a very limited budget and time, with the owners' funds matched up to $20,000 (later $15,000). No source we read says what was changed at Human Bean. We found no description of new menu items, decor, staff changes or a relaunch, and no account of how the owners or regulars responded to the finished cafe. The Google Play description does not name the town; Cobourg, Ontario, is the location given by the show-list leads we started from, not a fact we could confirm from a readable source.

A public Google Places listing for a business called Human Bean at 80 King Street West in Cobourg, with the website humanbean.ca, was marked operational when checked on 2026-10-19. We could not confirm that this is the same location as the 2005 episode, and because other businesses called Human Bean exist in several places, the name alone was not enough to settle it.

This entry therefore records the episode and the existence of a similarly named listing, and leaves the cafe's current situation open until a readable source with a 2026 date, such as posted hours, a recent review or a dated social media post, turns up.

A Google Maps listing checked 2026-10-19 shows Human Bean at 80 King Street West in Cobourg as operating, with more than 100 Google reviews, and the newest review shown on the listing is dated July 16, 2026. A Google place search for Human Bean in Cobourg returns only this café.
