What happened after Restaurant Makeover?

Restaurant Makeover (HGTV Canada / Food Network Canada) featured Bakerberry Caffe, a Toronto cafe, in an episode that aired on 2008-01-08. According to the Rotten Tomatoes episode description, the owners, named there as Kirsten and Jon, wanted a chic European-style cafe that earned a profit, but the room lacked personality and faded into the background.

Each episode of the series paired a chef with a designer for an overhaul on a limited budget. Wikipedia's Restaurant Makeover table credits chef Corbin Tomaszeski and designer Jonathan Furlong with this episode, and it lists the cafe's name after the makeover as Nook, with Bakerberry Caffe as the original name. The pages that could be read give no detail on what the rescue changed in the menu, the decor or the staff, and no account of the relaunch was found, so none of that is described here.

The evidence for later years comes from a Toronto business called Nook, matched to the featured cafe by its name and city. No source was found that ties the Bakerberry Caffe name to the King Street West address, and the shop's own website does not mention the television episode.

Nook's website, retrieved on 2026-10-19, presents a panini shop at 469 King St W, lists a menu of paninis, salads and soups, shows weekday hours and carries an online-ordering link. The page gives two different sets of opening hours in separate places, so the exact schedule is unclear, and it includes an undated Instagram caption about meals delivered since mid-March. An Uber Eats listing for Nook Cafe at 469A King Street West, retrieved the same day, showed Thursday hours of 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and showed delivery as unavailable.

BlogTO's list of the best panini in Toronto, which carries no date on the page that was read, describes Nook as a semi-hidden lunchtime spot on King West, below street level. A Google Places listing for the address, retrieved on 2026-10-19, was marked operational.

Wikipedia's table marks the cafe as still open, but that table is a lead rather than a dated source, and nothing read for this entry shows what the Bakerberry Caffe space looked like before or after the show.
