What happened after The Hotel Inspector?
Channel 5's The Hotel Inspector visited St Mary's Gate Inn in Arundel, West Sussex, in the episode first shown on 2025-07-31 (series 20, episode 3). According to TheTVDB's episode entry, Alex Polizzi met a married couple, Dave and Katie, who were turning a 500-year-old pub into a gastropub with boutique guest rooms. The entry says they had no hospitality background, had three young children and were heading toward opening day, which made the project a large personal gamble.
The Hall & Woodhouse website lists the pub on London Road, Arundel, with six en-suite bedrooms and breakfast included (page last modified 2023-05-16). The Sussex Express reported on 2024-05-07 that David Skinner, who also runs the Lamb Inn at West Wittering, had become landlord of the pub, which belongs to the Hall and Woodhouse brewery. The paper said he planned to add five castle-view hotel rooms, overhaul the kitchen, refresh the decor and serve food all day. The sources read for this entry do not say whether that landlord is the Dave shown in the episode, so the two accounts are kept separate here.
The pub's own website, titled "St Mary's Gate | Pub and Hotel in Arundel", describes a historic pub with charming rooms. Its contact page, viewed on 2026-10-19, lists opening hours of 11am to 10pm Monday to Thursday, 11am to 11pm on Friday and Saturday, and 11am to 6pm on Sunday, and offers indoor table booking. The site carries an environmental policy document labelled 2025, but no dated news item and no mention of the television episode. The sources read for this entry do not describe the advice Polizzi gave or any changes made after filming.
