What happened after The Hotel Inspector?

The Crown Inn on Main Road in Higham, near Alfreton in Derbyshire, featured in the eighth-series Hotel Inspector episode 'The Crown Inn, Derbyshire', which aired on Channel 5 on 2011-10-24 with Alex Polizzi. TheTVDB's listing describes a 15th-century, two-star inn with 10 en-suite bedrooms, a bar and a 50-seat restaurant that had trouble attracting customers at weekends, with dated decor that Alex set out to improve.

A press release posted to PRLog on 2011-06-24 by Peak District Online described the filming. Local reporters stayed as inspectors and gave their views of the rooms. Of three rooms shown, one was left as it was and two were made over by the owner, Rita Williams, and Alex Polizzi. A feedback session chaired by Alex was attended by representatives of other local businesses, and Peak District Online said it had revamped the inn's website for the programme makers.

The Derbyshire Times reported on 2023-05-15 that the Grade II listed building is a former village pub that closed in 2019. According to that article, a planning application to North East Derbyshire District Council proposes converting it into three homes, with repairs, replacement windows and removal of an unstable chimney. A Google Maps listing for the Crown Inn at Alfreton DE55 6EH was marked permanently closed when checked on 2026-10-20.
