What happened after The Hotel Inspector?

The Hotel Inspector (Channel 5) visited the Grant Arms Hotel in Ramsbottom, Greater Manchester, in the episode “Grant Arms Hotel, Ramsbottom,” which aired 2015-05-14. Wikipedia's list of episodes describes a 14-bedroom hotel in a listed 19th-century building. The building on Market Place is Grade II listed (listed 1975) and dates from about 1828, according to the British Listed Buildings entry, which adds that the Grant brothers who opened the hotel are said to have been models for the Cheeryble brothers in Dickens's Nicholas Nickleby. The local site This Is Rammy profiled the hotel and its owner, Charlotte, on 2015-05-31, and described its history as a private house, then a hotel from 1828, with a clock added in 1852.

In a podcast page dated 2018-10-16, This Is Rammy reported that the Grants closed in September 2017 and had deteriorated since. The page said Bolton-based Group IFA was reviewing a plan to turn the building into offices, as reported by the Bury Times, and that an earlier sheltered-housing proposal had been turned down by council officers. On 2018-11-15, Group IFA chief executive Phil Rose wrote on the same site that the building had been empty for about 14 months, that Planning Application 63308 sought a change of use, and that the company intended to restore the clock and tower.

He said Hydes Brewery had looked at refurbishing it as a pub and hotel and judged that not viable. According to Wikipedia's Ramsbottom article, read on 2026-10-19, the hotel closed in 2018 and was being redeveloped as offices, with wording on whether the work is finished that is inconsistent.
