What happened after Restaurant Impossible: Last Call (Food Network)?
Yueh Tung is a family-run Hakka restaurant at 126 Elizabeth Street in Toronto's Chinatown. It anchored the premiere of Restaurant Impossible: Last Call (Food Network), the spin-off of Restaurant: Impossible (Food Network) hosted by chef Aarón Sánchez and Toronto restaurateur Jen Agg. The episode, “Chinatown Legacy,” aired 2026-07-23. According to Food Network's episode gallery, the restaurant has been a fixture since 1986, and sisters Jeanette and Joanna now run it, with Jeanette in the front of house and Joanna as chef.
The problems shown: Food Network reported that the pandemic thinned the lunch crowd, the dining room was often about 20 percent full, and rent was about $30,000 a month. Entrees were mostly around $20 with large portions, which put food costs at 33 percent against the 20 percent the hosts recommended. The sisters also took pay cuts so staff and vendors could be paid.
What the rescue changed: Food Network reported that the restaurant closed for three days for the work. The chili chicken portion was cut from 20 to 17 ounces, and Szechuan butter shrimp and a chili crab spring roll were added, with food costs of 28 and 17 percent. In the dining room, carpet was replaced with light tile, booth cushions were swapped for lighter fabric, gold accents were repainted antique white, and pendant lights, wall sconces and a wall of family photographs were added. The name stayed Yueh Tung.
The relaunch: Food Network described the first night of service after the reveal as a strong start. A three-month check-in in the episode had the sisters reporting that business had increased despite the smaller portions.
Since the episode: The Cinemaholic (Suvechha Sarkar, 2026-07-24) reported that Yueh Tung was still operating at 126 Elizabeth Street, closed Mondays and taking reservations through its website. The article listed later activity including collaborations with food creators, a talk about Old Chinatown at Toronto City Hall, and private events, and said Jeanette Liu is writing a memoir titled The Last Call. On 2026-10-19 the restaurant's own website listed weekly hours (closed Monday, daytime-only Tuesday, longer hours Wednesday through Sunday) and a reservations page. It carried a notice that, after a busy first half of 2026, the kitchen was narrowing the menu to its most popular dishes, and a separate post said part of the menu was returning. A Google Maps listing for the address showed it as operational the same day.
