Is Hanmer Arms Still Open? The Hotel Inspector Update (Hanmer, UK)

Part 1 — Season 1, Episode 2 Aired October 6, 2005

The Hanmer Arms is a pub with rooms in the village of Hanmer, in Wrexham County Borough, Wales (SY13 3DE). Wikipedia's list of The Hotel Inspector episodes (read 2026-10-19) describes the series 1 episode, broadcast in October 2005, as a visit to a 23-bed hotel, pub, restaurant and conference centre whose new owners had family investors expecting a return. Ruth Watson came back for a follow-up episode in series 2, aired 2006-08-17.

Since the broadcasts, CAMRA's online listing for the pub, updated 2026-07-22, says it reopened in August 2023 after another lengthy closure. The same listing gives drinks hours of 9am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 10pm on Sunday, with food served 9am to 8pm daily.

The pub's own website, thehanmer.co.uk (footer dated 2025), describes a country pub and eatery serving home-made food and cask ales, with en-suite family and double rooms overlooking the garden, a campsite, free parking, a Sunday carvery, a Wednesday evening carvery and a Sunday quiz. It links table and room bookings and lists a phone number and email address. A Google Maps listing checked on 2026-10-19 shows The Hanmer Arms as operational. The sources read do not say who owns or runs the pub today.

Part 2 — Season 2, Episode 7 Aired August 17, 2006

In a follow-up episode titled "Hanmer Arms Revisited", aired 2006-08-17 as part of series 2, Ruth Watson went back to the Wrexham County Borough hotel and pub she had visited in series 1. Wikipedia's list of The Hotel Inspector episodes (read 2026-10-19) describes it as a return to the owners from the earlier episode and gives no further detail on what had changed at the property.
