What happened after The F Word: Britain's Best Local Restaurant?
Part 1 — Season 1, Episode 4 Aired
Sweet Mandarin, a Chinese restaurant on Copperas Street in Manchester's Northern Quarter, won the Chinese heat of Britain's Best Local Restaurant on Gordon Ramsay's The F Word (Channel 4) in the episode "Chinese Restaurants" shown on 2009-11-24, scoring 82 out of 100 against 62 for Chop Chop of Edinburgh, and Wikipedia lists it in the first semi-final on 2010-01-05. Manchester's Finest, in a listing modified 2025-08-04, describes it as an award-winning restaurant focused on home-style cooking, run by a third generation of women restaurateurs. The restaurant's website says customers voted it "Gordon Ramsay's Best Local Chinese Restaurant in the UK", cites an AA Rosette for 2015-16 and MBEs for the twins in the 2014 New Year Honours, and calls aromatic crispy duck with gluten-free pancakes a must-try dish. When read on 2026-10-20, the website carried a 2026 copyright notice, an online ordering link, a Deliveroo link and dinner hours from Tuesday to Sunday.
Part 2 — Season 1, Episode 10 Aired
On 2010-01-05, in the episode "The Dish of Their Lives", Sweet Mandarin appeared in the first semi-final of Britain's Best Local Restaurant on Gordon Ramsay's The F Word (Channel 4), alongside Lasan of Birmingham and Santa Maria del Sur of Battersea, according to Wikipedia's series table. The table says the semi-finalists had served signature dishes to panels of diners at their own restaurants before cooking in a cook-off at Ramsay's Royal Hospital Road restaurant in Chelsea, but it gives no scores or dishes for the semi-finals. Sweet Mandarin had reached this stage by winning the Chinese heat shown on 2009-11-24, scoring 82 against 62 for Chop Chop. Its own website, read on 2026-10-20, highlights aromatic crispy duck served with gluten-free pancakes and describes the restaurant as coeliac safe, and Manchester's Finest, in a listing modified 2025-08-04, places it at 19 Copperas Street in the Northern Quarter.
