What happened after The F Word: Britain's Best Local Restaurant?
Chop Chop, a Chinese restaurant on Morrison Street near Haymarket in Edinburgh, lost the Chinese heat of Britain's Best Local Restaurant on Gordon Ramsay's The F Word (Channel 4) in the episode "Chinese Restaurants" shown on 2009-11-24, scoring 62 out of 100 against 82 for Sweet Mandarin of Manchester, according to Wikipedia. The Edinburgh News reported on 2023-03-14 that owner Jian Wang came to Scotland from north-east China in 1997, that Ramsay praised the restaurant's dumplings as the best he had tasted, and that it was twice voted the UK's favourite Chinese restaurant and held an AA Rosette. The Edinburgh News reported on 2020-08-21 that the Haymarket restaurant had closed, quoting her online message: "Sadly we are unable to see a path to reopening."
Its 2023 article said she closed the three Edinburgh and Glasgow branches in 2020 because of Covid-19's impact, and that she still runs Chop Chop Frozen, which supplies dumplings to supermarkets and restaurants. A public listing checked on 2026-10-19 also marks the Morrison Street address permanently closed.
