What happened after The Hotel Inspector?

The Crown Inn on the High Street in Lewes, East Sussex, was the subject of the first episode of series 5 of The Hotel Inspector (Channel 5), which aired on 2009-07-06. Wikipedia's episode list says the inn had collected a run of poor internet reviews and had lost a star rating. It records no outcome for the visit.

The Sussex Express reported on 2020-10-28 that the Grade II building, which it described as a former hotel and pub, was nearing the end of a restoration that would turn it into nine boutique apartments with commercial space on the ground floor. The paper said the work was expected to finish in early 2021. It named Crown Developments, a property company based in Lewes, as the owner, and quoted Steven Sparks of that company, who said he first noticed the building while watching the television programme. The article was headlined as a restoration to former glory and gives the building's future use as residential and commercial rather than as an inn.

A Google Maps listing for The Crown Inn at 191 High Street, Lewes BN7 2NP, checked on 2026-10-19, marks the business permanently closed. The listing gives no closure date, so it shows only the status on the day it was read. Taken with the Sussex Express report, the sources show the former inn building in the hands of a property developer and being converted to flats, with no sign of an inn operating there.
