What happened after The Hotel Inspector?

The York, formerly the York Hotel, is a Victorian pub with rooms on Lancaster Road in Morecambe, Lancashire. TVmaze's listing for the Channel 5 episode (series 18, episode 4, aired 2023-10-31) describes ex-army couple Gareth and Gemma, who took on the pub-hotel about 18 months earlier and were struggling to fill the rooms, with room occupancy close to zero. Beyond Radio reported on 2023-07-12 that Gemma and Gareth Gardner had taken over in 2022, that Polizzi advised them, that cameras filmed at the pub, and that it was dropping “Hotel” from its name to become The York. The same article reported a kitchen fire the previous September that made the family, staff and guests leave overnight, after which the pub reopened, and a family fun day planned for 1 August 2023 to mark the relaunch.

Beyond Radio reported on 2024-07-08 that Polizzi had suggested changes to the name, rooms, pricing and food menu, that the couple barred more than 100 customers to restore a community and family feel, and that the Gardners would leave on 4 August 2024 after two years to spend time with family, with staff staying on to work with a new landlord or landlady. The article did not say who would take over. A Google Maps listing for The York at 87 Lancaster Road, Morecambe LA4 5QH uses the new name.

Title: York Hotel, Morecambe · What was featured: Ex-army couple's Victorian pub-hotel with empty rooms; rename, pricing and menu changes

Synopsis (tvmaze.com) : Alex Polizzi digs deep to find the magic needed to pull another failing business back to life. Eighteen months ago, husband and wife Gareth and Gemma took up the tenancy at the York Hotel, in the North-West seaside town of Morecambe. This grand three-storey Victorian building houses eight bedrooms, a downstairs pub, a large function room and outdoor seating area. The hotel offered a chance of a new life and a permanent home for them and their children, but being pub landlords is a far cry from their former lives in the army, and the couple are struggling to fill the rooms.Enter The Hotel Inspector, who tells it to them straight. Room occupancy is practically zero, the customer base is narrow, their gross profit on food and drink is at an all-time low and on top of that, Gareth and Gemma are using their military pension to pay the bills and are still making a loss. A lick of paint will only take this business so far, so Alex calls in local experts to help formulate a tangible plan to put this establishment back at the heart of the community. The Hotel Inspector knows they have a mountain to climb and she's determined to show the well-intentioned couple the light. But can Alex help make the changes needed to pull this project into what they have dreamed of?
