What happened after Restaurant Makeover?

The Restaurant Makeover episode titled "Bacchus Roti" aired on Food Network Canada on 2008-12-15, the eleventh episode of the fifth season. The Rotten Tomatoes episode guide describes it only in general terms: two restaurant industry top guns overhauled a struggling restaurant. The sources read for this entry do not describe what the episode showed, what the makeover changed, or how the relaunch went, so none of those details appear here.

What they do show is the shop's longer history. In an article whose web address places it in September 2018, blogTO reported that the Bacchus family would close Bacchus Roti Shop at 1376 Queen St. W. in Parkdale that October. According to blogTO, Robert Bacchus's parents, Dick and Sue, opened the shop in 1985, and it grew from a four-seat restaurant. Robert sent a statement on the family's behalf saying they were retiring and that passing the business to the next generation would be hard, and blogTO said the space would be leased out as a restaurant. blogTO also noted that Anthony Bourdain visited in 2012 for The Layover. The article does not mention Restaurant Makeover.

On 2018-10-25 Stephanie Dickison's weekly Open/Closed column listed Bacchus Roti Shop at 1376 Queen St. W. under closures, saying that the next day would be its last. A Google Places listing for Bacchus Roti Shop at the same address, read on 2026-10-19, is marked permanently closed. The shop's old website, bacchuscaribbeanrestaurantandbar.ca, still loaded on 2026-10-19 with a notice dated 2018-08-07 about a one-day closure for menu development and a copyright year of 2016. Nothing on it is newer than 2018, and it is not linked here.

Wikipedia's list of the show's renovated restaurants marks Bacchus Roti as still open. That undated entry conflicts with the 2018 closing notices and with the 2026 Google listing, and it does not outweigh them. The sources read do not say what the makeover cost, what changed in the shop, or what replaced it at 1376 Queen St. W. blogTO's article added that the family had not said what the new concept would be.
