What happened after Restaurant Makeover?
Seashell Seafood Restaurant was a family-run seafood restaurant in the North York part of Toronto. Restaurant Makeover paired a chef with a designer to overhaul a restaurant on a limited budget, and this episode aired on 2007-10-22. According to TV Guide's season listing, the owners were Christine and George, and designer Cheryl Torrenueva overhauled the room and renamed it Flame Bar and Grill. The build crew's Igor worked through the night on pipes, tiles and fireplaces, and chef David Adjey tracked down a grill cook.
Rotten Tomatoes' synopsis says the restaurant received a new menu so that the family tradition could continue. Wikipedia's list of Restaurant Makeover restaurants agrees on the new name, giving the original name as Seashell Seafood. The sources read give no budget figure, no description of the new menu and no account of the relaunch.
The address comes from this project's earlier research, which ties Seashell Seafood Restaurant to 5197 Yonge Street through a 2004 ChefMoz directory record and a TripAdvisor listing for Pho 88 at the same address; neither of those pages was re-read here. Wikipedia's list adds a note that the site is now Pho 88. An Uber Eats store page for Pho 88 (Yonge), retrieved on 2026-10-19, lists the restaurant at 5197 Yonge Street, Toronto, M2N 5P7, with hours of 11:00 a.m. to 9:40 p.m., Vietnamese and Asian cuisine tags, and more than 2,000 ratings. The page shows no dates on its reviews.
A different restaurant, Flame Bar & Grill on Lawrence Avenue West, shares the name; its website describes a contemporary grill with velvet seating and makes no mention of Seashell Seafood or the television show, so it is not treated as the same business.
The sources read do not show how long the restaurant operated as Flame Bar & Grill, when Pho 88 took over the space, or what became of the owners.
