Is Bagel World Still Open? Restaurant Makeover Update (Toronto, ON)

Bagel World, a Toronto bagel bakery at Bathurst Street and Wilson Avenue, was the subject of the Restaurant Makeover episode aired on 2007-10-29. Rotten Tomatoes' synopsis calls it a landmark institution that had been serving bagels since 1965. BlogTO's profile of the shop, which has no date on the page, gives a similar history: more than 55 years old, founded by Charles Sherkin and passed to his son Michael, who co-owns it with Ephraim Dloomy. That profile reports that Michael and Ephraim appeared on Food Network in 2007 for Restaurant Makeover, which remodeled the whole store.

TV Guide's season listing describes what the episode centred on. Regulars of the shop worried about changes being made by owners Ephraim and Michael. Designer Robin Fraser modernized the space. Chef Corbin Tomaszeski and cook Svetlana introduced the Bagel Bar, and the build crew's Igor dealt with the electrical capacity the new setup needed and with deliveries that arrived at the last minute. Wikipedia's list of Restaurant Makeover restaurants gives the same chef and designer. The sources read give no cost figures and no account of the reopening day.

BlogTO's profile adds that Bagel World had grown into a small chain with stores in Newmarket and Thornhill. A separate BlogTO announcement, undated on its page but carrying 2009-02 in its web address, described a second shop at Bloor and Spadina in the Annex. On 2026-10-19 the company's website listed four locations: 336 Wilson Avenue in North York, Disera Drive in Thornhill, Yonge Street in Newmarket and an Urban Market unit in Oshawa. The site offered delivery through Uber Eats, pickup through Uber Eats, Ritual and DoorDash, an online catering menu, and a phone number for call-in orders at the Wilson store, and its hours section listed 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Its footer carries a 2024 copyright notice, and its page metadata shows a last-modified date of 2026-02-13.
